Video Premiere: Silver Y – Stupor [Bytes]

Stupor is the second single to be taken from In the Depths, the stunning debut album by the Sicilian multi-instrumentalist Silver Y, aka Laura Caviglia.
‘You have awakened into a black slumber. You cannot speak, you cannot see, you cannot move, you cannot wake. Dim lights and distant, indistinct voices flicker and fade into an amniotic nothingness.
Yet, one sliver remains between the void and whatever was before: you can feel someone holding your hand. And somehow, impossibly, you manage to return the grasp, even tracing the ghost of a caress.
This is the last bridge, fragile yet untouched by the abyss—a single, radiant perception breaking through from the outside: pure love.’
Stupor is a stark, moving and spiritual meditation on being in a coma and the opening track on the album. From a deep hum of a bassline, Laura’s choral vocals soar above taut drum snaps and droning synth lines. There is serious songcraft on show amid the intoxicating soundscape.
Laura’s passion for electronic and ambient music started about 15 years ago, but it is in the past few years that she realised these were the genres that would allow her to find her personal language in music, express herself and experiment. “In this field, musical composition goes beyond harmonic, melodic and rhythmic choices,” she says. “It is the search for, or even the creation of, the desired sound that intellectually and emotionally stimulates me about this genre. This pursuit has led me to develop a passion for sound synthesis (and analog synthesisers) and sound processing during mixing. I believe I still have a lot to learn, and thankfully so.”
The album was composed on a set-up primarily consisting of three analog synthesizers and a drum machine connected to a sequencer, plus a MIDI keyboard used to add Arturia Mellotron and Solina sounds.
In the Depths is released on April 25, 2025 and is available digitally and as a limited edition compact disc.
