Video Premiere: Nandele feat. Adrian Diff – Nnê

Music

Rewrite your history because what you were taught was prescribed. Identity is to be redefined or else you are living a lie. Now, I’m the manifestation of my ancestors imagination. The gene pool that Jan tried to erase from the school syllabus. Burnt and verdala’d. My great grandpa’s land Aspris under colonial rule. I’m the ceremony where the moonlight and dust collaborate. My foot stomping the soil allows me to levitate to a place where peace and power will eventually illuminate.

Last year Maputo producer and musician Nandele released his album ‘Plafonddienst’ on Atlanta’s Already Dead Tapes. As a follow up to the LP, he’s teamed up with Cape Town-based writer/filmmaker Adrian Van Wyk AKA Adrian Diff for a visual collaboration around the track ‘Nnê’. Also an extension of Van Wyk’s exhibition project about the Kuilsriver titled ‘7580words’, the video centres around the environment of this northern suburb in Cape Town, exploring the unassuming buildings connected to unseen activities in the area and raising questions like: “how does the environment with all of its history connect to the imagination?” and “how do colonial symbols become intrusive on the landscape, triggering thoughts of yesterday?”
