Premiere: Zmatsusi – UWU
The Leeds community radio station bring together friends and residents for their first VA, to raise costs for the station.
Her phone screen stared back at her, its brightness forced her to squint in the darkness of her bedroom. She poured over her phone night and day; getting lost in apps that nobody needed; falling into video wormholes in the depths of social media; doom scrolling sections of the internet that she never knew existed. Without it she felt as though she were missing a limb, it had become an extension of her very being – how could she possibly live in a world without cute cat videos, emoji conversations and countless filters at her fingertips?
Leeds-based independent radio station NARR was launched just a few years ago as a space to share and discover experimental music from across the world, from new beat and post-punk to ballroom and noise. As a way to raise money for their studio costs and the running of the station, they’ve announced their first compilation cassette that’s comprised of 10 tracks from NARR residents and friends. Made up of music from the likes of Monophonik, Bleaching Agent and Zmatsusi, the release digs into the outsider sounds at the heart of the station including new wave, synth-pop, avant-garde electronics and dubwise selections.
Narr VA is out now.
