PINTY – Press shot Brickhouse
Music

Following the release of his new single ‘Brickhouse’ and ahead of his show at The Social this Friday we asked Pinty to reflect on some of his favourite Garage records.

Pinty continues to move from strength to strength – the Peckham based MC is breathing new life to London and beyond with sophisticated wordplay and swagger.

Pinty is an MC who rose to prominence as part of the same South London crew as King Krule and Jamie Isaac, and has collaborated with Metronomy and Emma-Jean Thackray.

As a lyricist he is influenced by MCs like Skibadee, and story-tellers like Willie Nelson and Jay-Z. Adept at rapping intricately over jazz-tinged house, hip-hop beats, drum ‘n’ bass and more, making him one of the most exciting voices in alternative UK music.

His recent mixtape ‘Pinty’s House’ saw him work with George Fitzgerald, Karma Kid, King Krule, TEED, Afriqua and Jadasea.

This Friday he will join our crew for a special party at The Social in Soho, London where he will showcase new material. Ahead of this we invited him to talk about some of the Garage influences which helped formulate his own love for the genre.

Sweet Female Attitude - Flowers

“An absolute must have on any UK garage list. An all-time smile-bringer. You can be as sober as a judge when this comes on and still be on top of the world.”

  • Sweet Female Attitude - Flowers

“An absolute must have on any UK garage list. An all-time smile-bringer. You can be as sober as a judge when this comes on and still be on top of the world.”

  • Monsta Boy - Sorry

“A garage tune about a guy who’s cheated on his lady begging her to come back. Surely this is modern Shakespeare?”

  • Ramsey & Fen - Love Bug

“Love at first … listen? I can remember so clearly the day I first heard this and it took my heart on the spot. It was later in life compared to most tracks on this list. I was at a friend’s rave in North London, but you know what they say about love: You never know when it’s gonna strike.”

  • Wideboys ft. Dennis G - Sambuca

“Because Sambuca is close to my heart. People are more into Tequila these days and that’s okay. All I know is Sambuca goes a whole lot better with UK Garage.”

  • Future Underground Nation - It’s the Way ’99

“Rumbling bass, heavy drums and a massive vocal from an incredible singer. It never could go wrong. If you have ever been out and heard this come on, you know what I’m talking about. If not, you need to come to more parties with me.”

  • Tuesday Born - Mocking Bird

“Me and the legend that is Maxwell Owin used to mix this in with a few other garage classics back in the not-so-long-ago day… Very good memories. That’s what make a great song great, ain’t it?”

  • Danny J. Lewis - Spend the Night (Top Cat Radio Mix)

“Highly rated for a good reason. Funky bass, huge vocal. That very sweet spot between house and UK garage. Yet again a London classic. Bad boy tune.”

  • Richie dan - Call it Fate

“A UKG legend with far too many tunes to pick from. Every single one of them is a cult classic but this one takes the biscuit. Shout out to Kwik-Fit Cons, listening to garage in the garage. Oh how poetic…”

  • The Streets - Weak Become Heroes remix (Ashley Beedle Love Bug Remix)

“My favourite ever time playing this out was at a closing party in Peckham. It was my last song and it was perfection. Euphoria to say the least.”

  • 2Lovely Crew - UK Garage Mix

“This is my brother’s MC mix, where I got all my inspiration from in the very beginning. RIP Big Moody.”
