Local Heritage with Matisa
As Rome-born, Florence-based DJ and producer Matisa alludes to below, the country she calls home has always been associated with the finest quality ingredients, be that in fashion, food or music.
This sense of style translates through her musical efforts; as a DJ that’s through her skilled and energetic sets and her collaborative parties with her own night The Naked Dance, that has seen her join forces with crews like Lattex Plus and Goa Club.
On a production tip she first caught our ear with her Optimo Music debut, which was soon followed up with a contribution to Butter Sessions Come Together V/A. There’s another debut on the horizon for Moxie’s On Loop, but first she’s taken her breezy house musings to French label Biologic which saw the light of day last week. To celebrate the release, Matisa shares some of the Italian sounds that have inspired her own music…
I think for centuries, perhaps since the beginning of time, Italy has always been associated with an incredible sense of style. It can be found in Renaissance paintings, people’s way of dressing, their clothes, and the art they make. When I think of Made in Italy, the first thing that comes to my mind is quality: the quality of the fabrics, tailoring, and music production. This is the true strength of Italy and of all great artists. Here I’ve picked music that embodies this feeling and has been a strong source of inspiration for my productions.

A milestone of early 90s Italian house music. A label that turned underground music into a cult. This one is poetry written into music.
