Life Guidance with African Head Charge’s Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah
After a twelve-year hiatus, African Head Charge are back with an ace new album “A Trip To Bolgatanga.”
African Head Charge played a pivotal role in the early days of On-U Sound, originating as an experimental project that took form during late-night studio sessions, the hours that nobody else wanted. At its core, it was driven by two friends and core On U bastions: Adrian Sherwood and Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah.
Now, with founder member Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah leading the way and Sherwood at the production helm, Head Charge have made a triumphant return. The path back to On-U Sound was marked by financial setbacks, including the collapse of several distributors and wasn’t until 2005’s “Vision Of A Psychedelic Africa,” a collaborative effort involving all three Tackhead members – not only Skip but also Doug Wimbish and Keith LeBlanc – that they rekindled their association with the label.
The intricate dub elements in the LP pay homage to the sounds of the 1980s and New Age Steppers while offering a glimpse of the group’s evolving musical direction. We asked Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah for some life guidance… listen below.
Here I come, that’s what I and I come with, although some people take our love and kindness for weakness.
