Insomnia Music with Die Wilde Jagd

Music

Since his debut album four years ago, Sebastian Lee Philipp's Die Wilde Jagd project has wielded a distinctive sound that blends instrumentation and electronic.

Heady, atmospheric textures are realised through live guitar, synthesizers, electronic percussion and moody German lyrics, which have found their way on to imprints like Jennifer Cardini's Correspondant and Hamburg's Bureau B.

Following the release of minimood's Morgenrot, a hefty remix package that saw producers like Steve Bug, Roman Flugel, Ancient Methods and Rude 66 offer up reworks of Die Wilde's original track, Sebastian takes us through some of the tracks that for him translate or ease feelings of insomnia…

Metallica - Enter Sandman

Insomnia is a two-bladed sword. Getting enough sleep is important. Lying awake when you want to sleep can be very frustrating. But I also find that those moments can be used in a fruitful way and turn into important, potentially transcendental experiences.

  • Sergei Parajanov - Shadows Of Forgotten Ancestors

One thing you can do when you’re lying awake at night is to just accept the fact that you won’t be falling asleep anytime soon and use the time to watch a good film. Like Sergei Parajanov’s “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors”.

  • Do Not Be Afraid To Go It Alone - Terence Mckenna

Terence McKenna’s voice is particular, his pace and pronunciation of words is very musical and I enjoy listening to him a lot at night. I like his humorous and fearless approach to life and in certain situations it can be good and helpful to remember some of his words of wisdom.

  • John Cage: 4'33'' For Piano

I value silence and enjoy experiencing the quiet, ambient sounds that surround me. Sometimes I hear a distant but strong drone coming from somewhere near my flat at night, a factory or a massive radiator perhaps. I fantasise about it being some sort of alien breeding nest and imagine myself becoming a part of its organism. Then I close my eyes and follow the colourful patterns that appear and imagine being levitated to infinite heights. Then I sometimes fall asleep.

  • Om Mani Padme Hum Chant || 3 Hours

When nothing else helps just listen to these friendly Buddhist monks for a few hours.
