Celebrating twenty years of her iconic track ‘Walk In The Park’ – we ask Dj Minx to reflect on some of her own Detroit favourites.

Dj Minx has been a champion for underground Detroit for decades. Her music has stood the test of time and her label ‘Women On Wax Recordings’ was a seminal outlet for friends and counterparts.

She first began dj’ing in the 90’s and and her career has progressed phenomenally since then.

Her seminal track ‘Walk In The Park’ marked a pivotal moment in the progression of the minimal techno and house sounds which have since evolved with great prominence.

Commemorating this milestone anniversary and honoring the legacy of Detroit’s First Lady of Wax, Factory 93 Record has commissioned a series of remixes from artists close to Minx, led by her Detroit brothers in arms Carl Craig and Seth Troxler. The five track package also includes a re-edit from Minx and additional remixes from Soul Clap and Ardalan.

Dj Minx reflects on the evolution of the record:

“My career has evolved so much in the twenty years since the release of ‘Walk in the Park’, it’s nostalgic to look back on it all. The fact that it took such a short time to create such a dynamic sound, still creates a glow inside me to this day. Not a single year has passed since its release that someone has not spoken of the track or thanked me for being the producer. This remix compilation features a culmination of producers who have grown into dear friends and have been incredibly supportive of me throughout the years. I am extremely excited to have them put a fresh perspective on a track that means so much to me.”

We asked Dj Minx to curate a playlist of the sounds of Detroit which ring true to her:

Octave One feat. Ann Saunderson - Black Water

“His release is impossible not to sing along to- it is another track known around the world and absolutely loved by everyone. Whenever everyone can sing along to a track, you know it’s a winner.”

  • Octave One feat. Ann Saunderson - Black Water

“His release is impossible not to sing along to- it is another track known around the world and absolutely loved by everyone. Whenever everyone can sing along to a track, you know it’s a winner.”

  • Waajeed - Motor City Madness

“Waajeed owns a DJ school here in Detroit at the 3000 Grand River, which a lot of people know as the home of Underground Resistance. This track is representative of his signature sound and I love his use of horns throughout this release. The accompanying video is so nostalgic to me because it portrays the beauty of Detroit, my home.”

  • DJ Minx - Do It All Night (Honey Dijon Remix)

“When I produced the track, I spoke to my friend Javontte about doing possible vocals. I only needed a hook and he delivered perfectly. Once it was in Planet E’s hands, they asked me about a potential remixer and I thought Honey would be THE one. I contacted her and she was on board- without hesitation. Her spin on “Do It All Night” maintains the original vibe but adds her signature elements that light up the dance floor.”

  • Tenth Planet (Kevin Saunderson Reese You No Extended Remix)

“I’ve always loved Blake Baxter’s productions and Kevin’s spin on it just elevates the crowd every time I play it. I would definitely call Kevin the “elevator” of any track he touches. This is a perfect example of Detroit excellence altogether in one song.”

  • Inner City - Big Fun (Inner City Edit Of House Of Virus Remix)

“Wheeeeew. Every time I play this it’s CRAZY. Nothing but screams from anywhere in the world- everybody knows and loves this track. The combination of the vocals meshed with House of Virus’ production makes this one a must-play in all of my sets.”

  • Floorplan - Out Of Control (Extended Mix)

“Floorplan is special to me because they’re a father-daughter duo from Detroit. The daughter, Lyric, used to go to school with my daughter. I remember when she was a toddler and now it’s beautiful to see how both careers took off. This track is reminiscent of that soulful, old school sound that was happening back when our daughters were growing up together.”

  • DJ Minx - Queendom

“I’m very proud of the drums and bassline in this track. Right after I produced it and played it in the club, people were into it. It’s the type of track that can be played in many different types of sets- whether it be a house set or a techno set, it’s definitely a groover.”

  • Carl Craig presents Paperclip People - Throw

“Carl never disappoints with his production and this track remains a staple in Detroit and across the world today. Paperclip People productions are on point- all of them. (Don’t say that ten times fast).”
