Patrice Scott – Euphonium (Sistrum)

Saying an artist is currenty one of Detroit’s finest is a huge statement but a valid one in the case of Patrice Scott. He’s been leading the charge over the past decade at the deeper end of the city’s sound and he’s about to drop his first long player. When I first saw that he was moving into the album format my ears pricked up so I was extremely excited when I finally got to check it out.

And the result? Well, the album lives up to all of my expectations with its deep, hypnotic and introspective sound. As you’d expect this is not an album of big statements. This is not overblown, there are no “big” moments. But if you’re a fan of his sound then that isn’t what you’re looking for. What we have instead is slow-building, intricately crafted statements of deepness. Highlights are not applicable to this album.

Nebraska – Stand Your Ground (Mr Saturday Night)

The NYC party-come-label is at it again and has just dropped this cut of hugely enjoyable house music from London boy Nebraska. As a party they’ve always strived to be “not just be another night” with an open and friendly outlook. They bring this 'anything goes' attitude to their label with a diverse back catalogue which is at times intense and at times open and fun. The artist, Nebraska, has been pumping out quality releases on labels such as Rush Hour and Delusions of Grandeur for a while now and if you’re not yet acquainted then I strongly advise you get on him ASAP.

This latest offering consists of four tracks of pure fun times house music from Nebraska. We open with 'Little Chan' which is an absolute killer cut of sunshine drenched escapism. Next up 'The Stoop' is a slow, jazzy builder. On from here we have the lazy, lackadaisical vibe of the title track, and then rounding things off we have 'Emotional Rescue' which is pure disco party tackle. This is a cracking release from a cracking label.

STERAC – Different Strokes (Mote Evolver)

Steve Rachmad aka STERAC has been a stalwart of the European techno landscape since year dot. The Dutch master is just about to drop an absolute destroyer of an EP on Luke Slater’s excellent Mote Evolver imprint and I highly recommend you take a look. For me, Mote Evolver is a bit of a go-to for dark and intense techno and it’s great to see them collaborating with STERAC who’s a long term favourite of mine. This four tracker is a lesson in intensity and grit. Well worth checking out – it’s a beast!
