8 Tracks: Of Morning Glory With Robert Dietz
Establishing versality within sound is incredibly difficult. It takes time, precision and attention to detail. Robert Dietz has released music on a number of acclaimed labels which includes Cadenza, Desolat, Be Chosen and Running Back. It is the latter of which he has been most recently affiliated with again, this time in the form of a recently launched sub label titled Misfit Melodies. Last month he released a four track EP on Gerd Janson's alternate to Running Back. We caught up with him as he selects tracks….
"I've always been a fan of clubs where you are able to see the upcoming daylight or the sun slowly drenching the dance floor in the early morning hours. It might have to do with these countless special moments I was able to witness at one of my favorite clubs in Offenbach, Robert Johnson or with the fact that I always felt overwhelmed by these hours of the new day that have something so innocent compared to the sins of the passing night. Some of these tracks feel like they are only made for those situations, with that hypnotic and tripping sense to put gentle smiles on each face of the listeners."

The title is what you get, in your mind and soul. I heard Vera dropping this slowly evolving chords and bassline rhythm machine about 12 years ago for the first time in the above mentioned venue and it was pure bliss.

Redcell - The Silicon GardenYou could possibly argue about the importance of this Likemind release compared to the few other ones but this is the track I personally feel the most. Like all of the labels’ releases this record is quiet rare and it was in my want list for years. I was very happy when I recently found it in Japan in almost mint condition for a very reasonable price. It’s probably not a track I would play in a club set but one of those you want to listen to when you walk home through the awakening city coming from a night at the club.

Dj Esp - I Like To Get Down (Dj Esp Mix)It’s one of the records you listen to for the first time and straight away have an image of a situation in mind where you would play it. A little bit more energy in it but good to set the pace for the following hours if it’s going to be a “longer distance” party.

Mspe - Son GokuUnfortunately the record was very limited in numbers and only available through a handful of shops. I didn’t manage to get a copy for myself but Phil Evans, a friend and one part of MSPE, was kind enough to send me the file. One of my favourite tracks of the year so far. Arpeggiator Chords to dream to, leaving you with a weird but happy feeling.

Melchior Productions Ltd - Rite Of Passage (The Induction)I heard Zip playing it at Panorama Bar for the first time, while the blinds went slightly open to let the sunshine in to this slowly evolving catchy groove you could listen to for hours.

Vincenzo - The Way Of ThinkingA pretty much underrated record in my opinion that only got some attention recently on Discogs as one of the big guys played it during a boiler room set. Usually the label and the producer are more known for vocal oriented deep house but this track stands out for me since I discovered it back then. It keeps building over ten minutes to slowly set the entire room to a hypnotic euphoric state of mind.

Format - #1 Solid Session 1991When you listen to this track by Orlando Voorn you wouldn’t believe that it’s from 1991 as it sounds so up-to-date and well produced sound wise. In my opinion a true timeless piece of electronic music. Straight forward positive energy for the morning.

Acid Scout - +++ AcidProbably one of my favourite acid tracks ever. Most of the typical acid tracks have a nasty vibe when this one comes up with this oddly beautiful mutating melody.
