8 Tracks: Of Dance And Design With Wasted Heroes

A landmark track for the disco era and the inspiration for our House, Love, Disco t-shirt. Hard to believe this dance floor filler is nearly 40 years old! We try to find inspiration from everywhere, and that includes classic tunes like this, especially around the language and wording – this track definitely helped us. Disco has remained consistently good for as long as I can remember, and this one is hard to beat!

Jack ya, jack, jack ya, jack your body… A repetitive catchy classic that paved the way for the acid house sound, which is an era we deeply respect. We’re massive fans of the 2004 remix by Jamie Anderson & Jesse Rosse but you have to respect the original, too. We love it so much we printed it on a tee, and it’s become a really popular design at Wasted Heroes.

You only have to look at our collection to see we’re mad about Acid House and that squelchy 303 sound. DJ Pierre’s Box energy is where it all started for us, and it’s one which still gets blasted in the studio a lot. We’ve teamed up with Pierre on developing the Acid 88 range and he is often seen championing the design.

This track is often cited as one of the first ever proper house tracks. Our Chicago 84 design was inspired by DJ/Producer Jesse Saunders and his 1984 hit ‘On and on’. Again this one has proved to be a really popular design, we think because people understand the heritage of the year and the era is represents.

A techno classic that reminds us so much of the Space Terrace and a crazy season spent in Ibiza. That summer heavily influenced what we do today with Wasted Heroes and our musical influences overall, and in the last few years Ibiza has seen a lot of artists wearing Wasted Heroes – Carl Cox especially in the Vibes tee, which is incredible to see! This is a pure and unashamedly hands in the air feel good tune.

There’s nothing better than a good stomping, no nonsense techno track and for us, this is one of the all time classics. It brings back memories of my early art college days, and trips to Shine in Belfast to see Laurent Garnier playing in 97/98. One of the many tunes that inspired our Techno Recipe print, which is one of our newer designs and doing really well. It’s exciting to sometimes use inspirations from the past. Seeing this track being dropped in the city at Circus was something special, as it still makes your hair stand up!

This track takes us back to the Sasha and Digweed Northern Exposure days. A truly amazing mix and tour, and I have just realised it’s now 20 years ago! We are privileged to now work with ‘Sasha’ on his Last Night On Earth merchandise range, which is a relationship and range of clothing we are really proud of.

We’ve loved this track since we heard it dropped by the Chemical Brothers in a DJ set at Cream, back when the club was as glorious its peak. That rolling beat just builds and builds. An office favourite to keep us on our toes, and one which for us harks back to Liverpool’s older days of super clubbing. A lot has changed since then – that place is rubble now! – but we love this piece of history.
