Sama’ Abdulhadi to launch fundraising series for Lebanon
Bring Back Beirut will visit cities such as Berlin and Paris, beginning in London at Phonox on 12th March with sets from Lebanese DJs Jad Taleb, Sam Karam and Tryangleman.
World-renowned Palestinian musician and DJ, Sama’ Abdulhadi will run the initiative alongside NGO, Nusaned, to help raise awareness of the economic crisis which is devastating Lebanon.
These efforts come after an explosion in the country’s capital caused 218 deaths, 7,000 injuries, and US$15 billion in property damage in 2020. The funds raised will go to sponsoring struggling families, providing them with financial assistance.
As well as the event series, Abdulhadi will also collaborate with several Lebanese electronic musicians on an NFT compilation from which songs will be auctioned to the public. As well as raising funds for the initiative, this comes as part of Abdulhadi’s aims to inspire creators and music fans to look outside traditional economic systems in a country where savers’ access to withdrawals are either prevented by banks or completely pillaged. She says ‘Beirut is my second home, it’s the place where I found myself in music and found my freedom. It’s the least I can do to help highlight the situation.’
‘Bring Back Beirut’ takes place at Phonox, London, on Saturday 12th March. Buy tickets here.
