re:ni and Laksa launch new label, ‘RE:LAX’
re:ni and Laksa announce their new label, RE:LAX, as an extension of their NTS Radio show and party of the same name.
Laksa kickstarts the label with a three-track release called Body Score that explores his signature 150bpm terrain whilst drawing inspiration from his day job as a Social Worker.
He examines the idea of music as therapy and a cathartic release, and how it can “leave you on a high and can help carry you through the week”. That’s why emotion and feeling will be at the core of every release going forward, which currently includes another EP and some upcoming mixtapes.
In name, and track titles, it alludes to these interconnected processes between the body and mind, while sonically it’s full of weighty sub bass, swung beats and intricate sound design.
Speaking about where they see the label heading, re:ni and Laksa explain: “We’ll be exploring music at faster tempos – trying to continue the lineage of jungle, dubstep, grime and UK techno. The balance of Flow and Energy in a track is something we’re interested in; Flow is sound design / fresh sonics, and Energy is the feeling and emotion of a track. Having this balance gives a tune the potential to be memorable and impactful. Music that makes you feel something and gives us a visceral connection on the dancefloor is important to us.”
Between them, Laksa and re:ni have released music on Ilian Tape, Hessle Audio and Timedance, and have played across the world at the likes of Berghain/Panorama Bar, Dekmantel Selectors, Printworks, De School, Nowadays and Tresor, to name but a few.
