Nexcyia announces debut EP ‘Crawl’ for Alien Jams
London-based imprint Alien Jams welcome sound artist and experimental musician Nexcyia to the family for his debut EP Crawl.
A project recorded between the summers of 2018 and 2020 in LA, London, Paris and most recently his family home in Normandy, the release is made up of six compositions that are a collection of reflections, personal experiences, and meditations on posthumanism inspired by bouts of loneliness, vulnerability, anxiety and – on a subconscious level – otherness.
With an objective to challenge our collective vulnerabilities and sonify our resilience through his sound design, Nexcyia’s work tries to decipher what’s real and what isn’t, using pitch and sound manipulation, archive video recording and digital orchestral instrumentation.
A personal take on modern anxiety, Crawl confronts ontological questions of what limits us as humans, and speaks to those who’ve felt othered.
Based between London and Paris, Nexcyia’s sound practice involves harsh sound design, swooping soundscapes and the use of found sound to draw inspiration into their practice, sonically bridging various moods, emotions and places through noise, granular synthesis, textures and rhythms.
