Listen To The 80s Post Punk Output Of K. Leimer’s Savant Project
Having given us a collection of Seattle synth and tape pioneer K. Leimar's ambient work with last years A Period of Review – Original Recordings: 1975 – 1983, the RVNG INTNL lable are now focusing on Leimar's post punk work. Recording as Savant, Leimar essentially invented a band in which he played all instruments, ran vocals through endless tape loops, and embraced jerky rhythms designed for the most inventive of dancers. As Savant, Leimar recorded an album and a 12" in the early 80s, both of which sound quite remarkable to this day. Fans of This Heat, or David Byrne's collaborations with Eno are going to be suitably impressed.
RVNG are bundling together a package that covers the debut Savant 12", the album, and a clutch of unreleased and album tracks, all set for release on September 4th on double LP set, CD, and digitally. Extensive liner notes and artist interviews were overseen by Aaron Leitko…
In advance, grab a listen to Stationary Dance – there's no doubting that Leimar was streets ahead of almost everyone around him…
