James Ellis Ford unveils debut album ‘The Hum’
Acclaimed producer and multi-instrumentalist James Ellis Ford has unveiled details of debut album ‘The Hum out May 12th
Known for his work with renowned acts like Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode, and Foals, Ford steps into the spotlight with ‘The Hum.’ The album encompasses a wide range of influences, from Brian Eno and Robert Wyatt to his family ties to Palestine, weaving together the pastoral vigour of Canterbury prog with modern production dynamics.
Lead single ‘The Yips’ embraces a Can-inspired groove with a Middle Eastern influence. Reflecting on his personal connection to the region “My wife is half-Palestinian, and my son has Palestinian roots, so a few years ago, I visited the territories to connect with the culture and people there. It was both inspiring and deeply disheartening.”
The genesis of ‘The Hum’ can be traced back to 2017 when Ford constructed a studio in his family home. When his creative partner in Simian Mobile Disco, Jas Shaw, faced health challenges – resulting in the duo’s hiatus – this prompted Ford to embark on his solo journey.
Challenging himself, Ford crafted ‘The Hum’ showcasing his composer, producer and songwriter hats with the album encompassing a blend of Radiophonic adventures.
Catch Ford live at Brighton’s CHALK, The Great Escape, Primavera Sound, Glastonbury Green Man Festival this summer
‘The Hum’ is out now on Warp Records.
