facebook opens up gender options

Facebook will soon allow users to choose from 1 of 50 options to describe their gender. Users will be able to choose from options such as bigender and generfluid as well as being able to conceal their gender, as before. 

The move has been hailed as progressive in many corners, with the Human Rights Campaign saying that facebook ‘has taken a milestone step’ by implementing the changes. 

The changes have been brought about partially by software engineer Brielle Harrison, who works for facebook and is in the process of undergoing gender transformation from male to female.
