Daft Punk announce split
The iconic French act has announced that it is no more. Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo founded Daft Punk in 1993 and the duo had been working collaboratively for twenty eight years having released some of the most influential dance and electronic music ever recorded, crossing over into the realms of pop and collaborating with the likes of Nile Rodgers, Pharrell Williams, Kanye West and many more.
Their split was confirmed by publicist Kathryn Frazier to Pitchfork earlier today but no reason has been provided as to why.
Their seminal albums “Homework” and “Discovery” remain some of the most innovative and era defining records of a generation. As musicians the pair always paid homage to the origins of house, techno and disco and were as proficient as dj’s as they were in the studio.
