African Head Charge break 12 year hiatus with new album
Pioneering dub-reggae outfit African Head Charge have shared their latest single, “A Bad Attitude,” ahead of their new album, the first in 12 years.
The track is taken from their upcoming album, “A Trip to Bolgatanga,” which is set for release on July 7 via the seminal On-U Sound. The album marks the group’s return after a hiatus of 12 years. “A Bad Attitude” features Ghanaian kologo player King Ayisoba, who brings his unique sound and vocals to the mix, along with Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah, the master percussionist and vocalist who leads the recordings.
The album was produced by Adrian Sherwood, who has worked with Lee Perry, Horace Andy, and Depeche Mode, among others. The album takes listeners on a musical journey to Bonjo’s current home in north Ghana, featuring African Head Charge’s signature hand percussion and group chanting, combined with mutated horns, dub effects, and electronic sounds. The album is a sonic adventure that promises to be a seminal classic.
