ohmydais: The ‘Shine A Light On’ Mix
Oh yes, this one is gonna get you in the bank holiday mood…
A grey cloud might still be hanging over London but we have Monday off and that’s a cause for celebration.
Thankfully we’ve drafted East London DJ ohmydais in for this series at just the right time, because she’s come correct with a punchy, pacy mix to set your long weekend off on the right note…
A lover of percussive and bass heavy club cuts, you can find Daisy flipping between a host of different sounds, but they’re always fast and furious, usually floating between the 140-160bpm mark.
When she’s not playing solo, she’s DJing as part of the Team Woibey collective alongside fellow shellers Ell Murphy, FAE and Mixtress, who together host a monthly show on Rinse FM, formerly on Foundation FM.
With a busy summer schedule ahead of her, we thought what better time to get her on board for a mix. Friday hats at the ready, get well and truly stuck in…
Please introduce yourself… Who are you, where are you and what are you
I am Daisy aka ohmydais. I’m based in East London, and I am a multi-genre dj by night and corporate PR person by day.
What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?
Where was the mix recorded?
This mix was recorded in my front room in Homerton on a light spring evening.
What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?
The ideal setting for the first fifteen minutes of the mix would be seated with a nice margarita cocktail with friends. Then, it gets a bit moody for a couple of tracks so it’s a sit in your room with headphones type of vibe. But soon afterwards, it gets super dancey and fun, so straight to the dancefloor for the rest of the mix.
What should we be wearing?
Very comfortable footwear that allows you to throw all types of shapes.
What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?
Dream mix recording location would have to be on a massive rig in the middle of the desert somewhere – the opposite of having to worry about noise levels in a London flat.
Which track in the mix is your current favourite?
My favourite track now in the mix…it’s between DFAM – Dj Backspin and Swooh – Sweet Wiggle. I will be rinsing these two songs this summer.
What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?
Can I give two favourite recorded mixes? My favourite recorded mix of mine would have to be for the femmedecks crew based in the US/Tbilisi <3 and my favourite mix recorded has to be dj sacom’s mix for somatic rituals – they are a wizard and an incredible selector.
If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?
I think a b2b with Four Tet would definitely keep me on my toes, haha! But I’d love to go b2b with Marcus Intalex if I could choose anyone from history, RIP <3
What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?
My first dj set up was a DDJ-SSX Pioneer controller at DJ that had way too many buttons. My set up now consists of second/third hand equipment I bought just before covid – a trusty two channel DJM-250 and two CDJs – Pioneer XDJ-1000s. I still have my KRK rokit 5s from uni too.
What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?
The finishing track is the most important – for me, it’s all about leaving people wanting more!
What were the first and last records you bought?
My first ever purchase on Bandcamp is Precision by Logic1000 (which still bangs) and my latest purchase is Rotting Hill (Two Lone Swordsmen Mix) by Two Lone Swordsmen – finally got around to buying this.
If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?
A rocky road chocolate bar.
If it was an animal what would it be?
It would be a rabbit, bouncing from genre to genre, year to year.
Upcoming in the world of ohmydais…
Upcoming bits for me include closing at Hackney Wick’s Queen’s Yard festival on Saturday 29th of April, I’m travelling to Berlin in early May for another solo Hor set, I’ve got a very special international guest coming on my next May Rinse show…there are also plenty of exciting summer festival sets like Twisted, Westival, Waterworks and more TBA 😊 thnx for the interview and the chance to put together a mix for Ransom Note!
