Please introduce yourself…
Hellooo! I’m Marco Weibel, DJ, weekly Lot Radio resident, Darker Than Wax co-head, food lover, cat content lover, recent W202 owner and the list goes on!
Who are you
Where are you
And what are you :
Just doing my thing, being human – been sharing vibrations / sound through dancefloors and radio for quite some time now. I’ve been in NYC for the last decade, can’t imagine being anywhere else?
What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?
It’s all over the shop but I would say a common theme is exploration, expansion, deepness. I made some stickers last year and I think sharing that image make sense for this, HMU if you ever want one!
What was the first electronic record you heard and how did it make you feel?
Orbital – Halcyon comes to mind – It was used as intro music for 9pm news on the local channel.
Where was the mix recorded?
It was recorded in my living room in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn one afternoon.
What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?
In commute with headphones or in a car is always an ideal setting for listening to mixes…
What should we be wearing?
Something comfortable obviously that allows you to move freely and express yourself but please do you!
What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?
I’m very used to the booth at The Lot Radio, after playing there for almost 8 years weekly – the sound is tight in there and they have great coffee too. They have 4 CDJs / 2 turntables and a Pioneer A9 mixer, Funktion-One speakers too!
Which track in the mix is your current favourite?
Abstract Truth – (We Had) A Thing (Matty’s Body & Soul Remix) has been a favorite – Captures the essence of NY summer nicely.
What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?
Probably Josey in Space by Josey Rebelle, she’s one of my favs in terms of range and storytelling.
If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?
Would be amazing to go back in time to check out the Muzic Box in Chicago and go back to back with Ron Hardy. That would be absurd!!
What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?
Serato controller back then and now it’s Technics 1200s, XDJS and a DJM 850. Have this running through some vintage Klipsch Hereseys + KG4 combo paired with a Pioneer SX3700 amp.
What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?
Definitely the track you start on, you gotta hook people in so that they actually are around for the track you end on!
What were the first and last records you bought?
First record I bought was Deniece Williams – This Is Niecy (with Free on it!!). The last record I bought last week was a Scott Grooves one, the Human Voice 2 EP, the track Let Me In is emotional!
If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?
Like a soup dumpling / xiao long bao, fresh, steaming hot, juicy, and leaving you wanting more! ha…
If it was an animal what would it be? Butterfly going through metamorphosis!
One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything? Serato Control vinyl lol – although I did see DJ Koco recently use one in the most creative way, pitching riding it to the melody of Nuthin’ But A G Thing.
Am I going to my dream job?
Depends on the gig ha.
Am I being compensated fairly for the value I bring to my job?
Sometimes but not always – Working on it!
Do I feel energised, rested, and confident?
There are good and bad days, – more good generally atm but these are all big priorities!
You just had a fight with the person you are closest to. do you not speak to them until they apologise…or do you apologise first? Not a fan of conflict so I’d usually try to squash things asap.
If you were trapped on a desert island with one other person, who would you choose? how long would it be before you eat them?
My partner Anna – We make a good team, we’d figure it out and live off the land!
Your doctor says you need more exercise….what do you take up for exercise?
Always been into riding bikes, used to ride BMX when i was younger.
If you could travel in time…where in time would you go? why?
Love to check out Plastic People during its prime in London, always heard so much about that place and how special it was. Also to NYC in the late 70s to check out the Paradise Garage, The Loft…
Anything else we need to discuss?
