London-based DJ LUCiD can cater for all moods and situations.

It’s something she’s finessed through her various musical ventures, be that the places she’s played or the collectives she’s spawned.

While she’s no stranger to getting bodies moving through the night, she’s just as comfortable playing more laidback spots like Spiritland and Brilliant Corners, giving her an opportunity to showcase both sides of her tastes — something she also does through her residencies on Balamii Radio and 1BTN.

As well as running Lucy’s Disco, a party at different spaces across the city, she’s also the founder of female-centric collective WXMB 2 who, through monthly events, provide a space that encourage females to join the music industry, behind the decks and the scenes.

She takes care of this week’s mix with a blend of bright and colourful house, acid, breaks and beyond…

Please introduce yourself… Who are you, where are you and what are you

I am Lucid, I am in Homerton and I am obsessed with playing you music.

What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?

Like this Lauren Martin illustration.

Where was the mix recorded?

In my kitchen.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

Getting ready to go out/ later at a party/ when you’ve got home from the club/ when you need to psych yourself up but not too much.

What should we be wearing?

Tassels, obviously.

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

Live from Panorama bar, or failing that, some huge beachside pad with loads of friends around, Funktion 1s, a pair of Technics, 1 CDJ 2000 and a DJM 900.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

‘At the Ranch (Lauer remix)’ by Jakob Mikesh Filburt is an old favourite.

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

Andrew Weatherall at Dekmantel 2019

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

Weatherall OF COURSE! His taste was impeccable, he was a pioneer in so many ways plus he had a great sense of humour so it would be a good time too.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

My first set up was a pair of extremely shit CDJ400s and a terrible mixer. My logic was if I could play on those I could play on anything. Now I have a pair of technics, an allen and heath xone 62, and a pair of xdjs – because who uses CDs anymore!

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

In a mix, the track you start on… In a club, the track you end on.

What were the first and last records you bought?

The first record I ever bought was The Beatles Sgt Peppers, and my last record was System Olympia’s debut album Delta of Venus (highly recommend!).

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Like the deep fried avocado taco (with chilli sauce) from Taco Queen in Peckham.

If it was an animal what would it be?

A green Iguana.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

The original version of Kenny Mann Jr and the Liquid Pleasure band – Tin Top.

Upcoming in the world of …

I have an exciting NYE gig I am looking forward to, TBA, and early next year I will be starting a night again after a couple years break! And still trucking on with my radio shows on Balamii and 1BTN.

Anything else we need to discuss?

How much time and tea have you got?
