A killer mix of house and balearic influenced dance music with purpose ahead of the release of their new album.

Good Block are a familiar duo amongst certain circles. For several years they have been steadily releasing music inspired by the funk and balearic influences of the late eighties and nineties – fusing modern sounds with the sun kissed hedonism of the past. They’ve been generous with it too. Always keen to share edits and tracks with friends, their music has been the secret weapon of many a DJ.

They are about to release a new album – titled ‘Window’ the record features a collection of dubbed out downtempo and house music which shows a growth and depth to their sound.

Based in London the pair are also seriously talented selectors – having built a reputation for their eclectic, far reaching sets which move between styles and genre.

This mix is a masterclass in a warm, glowing type of dance music – the sort that makes you long for summer and serenades you into spring.

Please introduce yourself…

Hello, thanks for having us Ransom Note! We are Andy and Rich from Good Block.

Who are you, where are you and what are you?

We are a London based producer, visual artist, DJ duo, self release label and occasion party hosts.

Where was the mix recorded?

In Andy’s living room in South London.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

Either outside or inside.

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

Somewhere near a window with a good view, booth and sound system.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

Marchant Etrian – Llandru (and) Good Block – Datura

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

One mix we both grew up listening to was the Dirtchamber Sessions Vol 1 by Liam Howlett from The Prodigy. It introduced us to many different styles of music and probably influenced the eclectic nature we play today.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

First:

2 x Technics 1200’s

Gemini 626 mixer

Now:

2 x Technics 1210’s

Alpha Recordings System 9100

2 x Pioneer 900 Nexus

Beni Dub Digital Echo

Beni Dub Siren

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

Both are important as well as the middle ones 🙂

What were the first and last records you bought?

Can’t actually remember the first! But probably something from a Hard To Find Records catalogue.

The last one just came through the post yesterday: Boriqua Style – El Piano Sabrosa.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

All the ones with live drumming in.

Upcoming in the world of…
