Dj Whipr Snipr: The ‘Shine A Light On’ Mix

It’s been a platform for Chris’ own productions but also for an extensive roster of artists from across the globe, including Interplanetary Criminal, Dj Swagger, J.Albert and so many more. This also includes music from his other project which is a hefty departure from his dance music activities. He’s no one trick pony, when he’s not producing tight, atmospheric electro and UKG, find him screaming down a mic with his heavy metal punk band Friction Control.

On today’s mix Chris takes it from 0 to 100 over the course of two hours. He floats from blissed out electronics to sweet RnB edits, warm, shuffling garage and hard ‘n nasty electro cuts, with a whole lot of Nerang business thrown in there too…

Please introduce yourself… Who are you, where are you and what are you

My name is Christopher mcivor. I am are 31 year old male from the Gold Coast in Australia. I am a Greenkeeper managing golf courses by trade and the owner / operator of nerang recordings.

What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?

Sounds like an emission of emotions from very high to very low depicting the thought patterns that come from within from the sunny beach to a dark cave.

Where was the mix recorded?

At my new house less then 200m from the beach my sunny place.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

Either sitting in the direct sun with some protection ofcourse, Driving to your favourite beach and halfway through the mix it would be more fitting to mix a couple of marg’z and start getting into some weekend work and then head back to the beach where this mix really should be enjoyed from the hot afternoon into a crisp evening.

What should we be wearing?

Sun protection mainly and whatever you love to swim in 🙂

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

A sunny beach anywhere with a bunch of records and my Cdjs of course as I am a digital warrior haha.
Pioneer all the way for me.

This one would be up there but I would have to say my first mix for rinse France

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

Norus as he is my constant inspiration in all facets of music not only an amazing dj but for sure one of the best modern day producers same goes for dj swagger these two are really on another level!

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

It was a very old pair of pioneer Cdjs today I just operate on pioneer Cdjs and a mixer but a much more modern pair.

I have recently shut down a big portion of the record label taking away the promotion / event side of things as I want to refocus on the Record output again.

I have also been making a new synth wave band “ Moody Mcivor “ with my good friend Felipe aka norus that will be coming out later this year. I’m putting all my focus into that as well as some new releases for the band I sing in, Friction Control.
