DIJA: The ‘Wednesday Alternative’ Mix
A club ready mixtape packed with bass-weight and beats that bang from Glasgow based dj and visual artist DIJA.
Next up is a raucous mixtape from DIJA – a Glasgow based DJ who doesn’t hold back. The Egyptian Lithuanian artist draws upon influences from the US and pairs them alongside the heads down, bass driven culture of the UK in a blur. The result is fast paced as she weaves and meanders between sounds and styles in a highly energetic fashion.
Next month she will play at Riverside Festival in Glasgow, a chance for her to dig deep into her own musical repertoire to bang it out in an idyllic location.
She’s become a regular on Clyde Built, LVLZ and Radio Buena Vida and has recently supported the likes of Sherelle, Shy One, Stush, pinkpantheress and Sam Gellaitry. That perhaps gives you a little indication as to what she’s all about. We expect to hear more in the future…
Whats up, I’m DIJA – I’m currently based in Glasgow & I’m a DJ, radio host and visual artist.
What does your music sound like/ draw a picture?
It sounds nostalgic and playful. I like to mix soft with harsh. This picture gives a good representation of the dichotomic nature of my mixes.
Where did you record your mix?
I recorded in pirate studios.
What is the ideal setting to listen to your mix?
On a sunny hill with your friends
What are you most excited about to play Riverside?
Last year the crowd was so good and It was cool to be outdoors, it brought a different experience to the sound for me.
What is more important, first or last track?
Both, set the tone w first and leave an impact w the last. To be fair, I know what my first track is and rarely my last because I like to see where the mix goes without expectations.
First record you bought?
The first record I bought was also my last and that was GZA – Liquid Swords.
