DASCO: The ‘Ransom Note’ Mix

The sense of freedom and connection she evokes on the dance floor translates to her mission to level the playing field for women, non-binary and LGBTQIA+ artists with the music industry. Earlier this year she launched Bisexuality Exists, a record label that works on the fact that “music – like life – is rarely ever black or white”, and that there are “so many beautiful colours and shades in-between”. The inaugural release, Get High With Me, came from DASCO herself, and is the perfect introduction to the uplifting club sounds that will form the label’s musical ethos.

Just like her DJ sets and her previous releases for Local Talk, Housewax and upcoming outing for Shall Not Fade, the release blends DASCO’s core influences; there’s nods to 90s rave and acid house but through a fresh, contemporary lens.

Ahead of her set at Polifonic this weekend in Puglia, she treats us to a high energy pre-party mix of hands-in-the-air house, acid and techno, and gives us some free DASCO tips for a happy and healthy life…

Please introduce yourself… Who are you, where are you and what are you

Hi I’m DASCO. A music producer, DJ, vocalist and the owner of “Bisexuality Exists Records”.

What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?

A sexy couple making love in nature.

Where was the mix recorded?

The mix was recorded in Berlin at 38 Celsius degrees. I would say recording it was hot.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

At a pre-party at home with your gang before heading to the club.

What should we be wearing?

The less clothes the better. Let your skin breathe 😉

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

Somewhere in nature or on the rooftop of a tall building surrounded by many dancing people enjoying themselves.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

I can’t decide between DASCO – Get High With me on Bisexuality Exists Records and DASCO – Acid Queen on Shall Not Fade Records.

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

A mix by Larry Levan from Tokyo in 1991.

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

I think that would be Roi Perez. First of all he is my friend and I like his musical choices. I also love his energie behind the decks and his ability to make the dance floor explode in a split of a second.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

I started with two turntables and a mixer and today I have my own music studio where I produce my music.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

The track you start on because I want the listeners to be curious about what’s going to come next.

What were the first and last records you bought?

The first record I bought was by Virgo Four. The last record I bought is by Disco Blanc.

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

A (vegan) chocolate ice cream on a sweet sunny day 🙂

If it was an animal what would it be?

A colourful bird flying freely in the sky above the ocean.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?
