Budakid: The Ransom Note Mix
Fluid House music with purpose and drive.
Budakid has been making moves.
The Berlin based producer has become a staple of the underground House music circuit having released a number of records and music on the likes of Exploited, Last Night On Earth and Anjunadeep amongst many others. His output is prolific and that has been reflected by his warm reception into clubland having performed internationally.
From a young age Budakid was influenced and driven by music and creative pursuits. His Indonesian background lead him to the drums as a fifteen year old before he moved into the realm of music production and dj’ing.
His sound is rooted in atmospheric House music, deep moving pads and energetic synths create delicate soundscapes across playful percussion. It’s always focussed on the dancefloor, the groove and repetition being very much important and at the forefront of proceedings.
This mix showcases his ability as a DJ and helps to define his approach to the genre.

Please introduce yourself…
Hi there, my name is Kevin Huizing a.k.a. Budakid.
Who are you, where are you and what are you?
I’m a Eurasian music producer, DJ, co-producer, multimedia designer, and a food fanatic that lives in the heart of the Alps.
What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?
It’s my personal diary full of life stories, reflections and thoughts.
Where was the mix recorded?
This mix was recorded on a sunny day in the Alps.
What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?
Outdoors, 15 minutes before sunset, so when the music turns darker the sky follows.
What should we be wearing?
Whatever you feel comfortable with.
What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?
Spring or Autumn in the Highlands during daytime with a small, good sounding, stage.
Which track in the mix is your current favourite?
Actually there are two; Nordfold with ‘Goldfold’ and Milio his ID track.
What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?
Bicep’s BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix from 2017.
If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?
Good question. I would’ve loved to play with Frankie Knuckles. Essential artist in the history of the house.
What was your first DJ set up at home?
The Behringer BCD2000.
What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?
Both are actually important. The track I start with puts me in the right mood and energises up the vibe. The one I close with is the one that keeps on echoing in your head whilst laying in bed.
What were the first and last records you bought?
The first CD that I bought 23 years back was ‘The Best of Trance 2001’. The last track I bought last month is D’Malicious – ‘Alive’.
If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?
A pizza. Different flavours, different vibes but together it’s lush.
If it was an animal what would it be?
A pizza with legs.
One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?
John Cage’s 4’33”
Upcoming in the world of…
Warcraft.
Anything else we need to discuss?
Stop war, make love!
