A-Tweed: The Shine A Light On Mix
Italian DJ and producer Ant De Oto aka A-Tweed brings his palette of Bouncing Springs, Broken Drums and low slung funk to our ears…
With releases on Hard Fist, Playground Records and Inside Out Record already under his belt, A-Tweed’s sound is a psychedelic blend of EBM, cosmic disco, downtempo acid, electro, and tribal techno.
This little beauty of a mix to shine a light on the Rome based produced is packed full of slow, lysergic rhythms and tribal breaks..
Low slung funk let’s go.
Listen and get familiar below:
You’re pretty new on our radar, fancy telling us a little bit about yourself?
My name is Antonio De Oto aka A-Tweed and I was born in Campobasso, Molise, a small town in Southern Italy with very freezy and snowy winters.
Where are you: Roma
What are you: a reasonable doubt
What does your music sound like?
Bouncing Springs and Broken Drums
Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?
How does your brain work when making music?
Endorphins & Anarchy
How does it work when you aren’t?
Just Anarchy
What was the first electronic record you heard and how did it make you feel?
I had a jazz/funk and psychedelic rock background, I guess that when I met “Ultra” by Depeche Mode and “Selected Ambient Works 85-92” by Aphex Twin something radically changed.
Where was the mix recorded?
At my home studio
What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?
Sunset vibes in the woods
What should we be wearing?
Wayfarer Sunglasses and your favorite t-shirt
What would be your dream setting to record a mix:
Somewhere in Skye Isle / Function One / Wrong Speed
Which track in the mix is your current favourite?
Hard to pick a single track, also because all of them are played “wrong speed”, but maybe “Ochenta y Dos” by Guile
What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?
Mmm, I really can’t say, there are too many mixes and recorded live performances that I absolutely loved
If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?
Probably John Talabot, Bufiman or Dengue Dengue Dengue, in each case I would be enthusiastic to learn something different from them.
What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?
I approached the djing 15/16 years ago doing afrofunk and northern soul selectas with CDs with a cheesy “Gemini” controller, now I basically use Pioneer cdjs everywhere.
What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?
The track I end on and all its details
What were the first and last records you bought?
The first one was “Californication” in 1998, now I mostly buy tracks on Bandcamp but maybe one of the latest full EPs I bought was “Dingers” by Will Hofbauer on Optimo
If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?
Guacamole?
One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything…
One of my upcoming EPs with most of the tracks in “odd time signature” LOL
Upcoming in the world of…
Working on a full album and a couple of EPs. Ah, launching soon a brand new label with my buddy Oltrefuturo.
Stay tuned!
Anything else we need to discuss…
How music actors can really help the “environment” and their scene? This is my question…
