“Here are some of my key influences on the Pelican System Digital Orchestra – which is the name that describes the sound I created by processing saxophones and different instruments using a computer.”

‘Universal Harmonies & Frequencies,’ is the collaborative album ‘Tune IN.’ between the great Hieroglyphic Being (Jamal Moss) and revered saxophonist Jerzy Maczyński. Debuting at Dekmantel last year, the live performance showcased the fusion of Moss’ synthesizers with Maczyński’s saxophones and electronics, which resulted in an exploration across avant-electronica, electro-acoustic, improv, and free jazz. The 12-track album, recorded over five days in Amsterdam, reflects their improvisational roots but also underwent extensive post-production, shaping a sound that spans from the stretched-out brilliance of the title track to the percussion-powered rhythms of ‘Breaking Open The Head’ and through to the  ‘The Emerald Tablet.’

Delving into the influences that shaped ‘Tune IN,’ Jerzy Maczyński – who has previously collaborated with the likes of William Basinski – has curated a playlist offering a glimpse into the inspirations behind the album allowing for a deeper appreciation of the universal harmonies and frequencies that resonate throughout this musical journey.

Universal Harmonies & Frequencies (Hieroglyphic Being and Jerzy Maczyński) – ‘Tune IN’ is out now Order here.

Zbigniew Namysłowski - Winobranie

It all started with the legendary jazz series in Poland, called Polish Jazz (belonging to the Polskie Nagrania / Warner Music label, where I also released my debut album). This song by Zbigniew Namysłowski (a Polish saxophonist, who was also part of this series) was constantly playing in my headphones during my year-long stay in Denmark, where I composed songs for this release.

  • Pharaoh Sanders - Love is Everywhere

Nowadays, I keep coming back to this recording.
    Where is this love?
How to fight for more love between people?
This recording was a huge inspiration for me in band playing

  • Jerzy Mączyński - Naya Rang

A song from my debut album. Recorded in a sextet. 5 of my friends from Poland and a very close person to me, Apoorva Krishna. An outstanding Carnatic violinist, one of the best in India from the younger generation.

  • Prabha Atre - Jamuna Kinaray Mora Gaon

While on tour in India with Apoorva, I went to Madras for a traditional Indian music festival, where I learned about this recording. Months of listening to this recording non-stop. Then I knew that I wanted my music to have a large element of trance in it.

  • William Basinski - Disintegration loop dlp 1.1.1

For this recording, I spent several months practicing looping saxophones, processing them and layering them.
Kind of an experiment, but sometimes I hear this theme in my dreams haha.

  • Philip Glass - The Grid

I invited my current girlfriend Katarzyna Dębska (visual artist) , that time a friend, to my house for a movie – Koyaanisqatsi, after watching it I managed to became her partner haha. I got a lot of inspiration in orchestration from the minimalists.

  • Mikołaj Górecki - 3rd symphony part 1

Polish composer Mikołaj Górecki is still a mine of knowledge for me when it comes to compositional and production techniques.

  • Jerzy Mączyński - Temple Of Jetsu

A song from my second original album, created with Wacław Zimpel. This album defines my thinking about motifs, it is a record of my transition into the electronic world.

  • 3 Wishes - Ornette Coleman

It all started with this track in terms of my thoughts for the creative process during the upcoming album Tune IN – Universal Harmonies and Frequencies. For many months I produced saxophones and other instruments for this album, listening to this particular song on a loop.

  • Jerzy Mączyński - The Fifth Science

Live version of the song that is the most important for me on the UHF album.  The composition fully reflects the term Pelican System Digital Orchestra
