A discerning selector with taste well beyond her years delivers a special assortment of musical goodness.

AliA is a rising producer and DJ based in Belgium, she has caught the attention of the likes of Mr. Scruff, Carista and Lefto with her intelligent selections and versatile approach.

Despite being young she has earnt a residency at the acclaimed Horst festival and has made regular appearances at C12 and De School amongst many others.

Most recently she has launched her own record label Artisjok on which the first release came from XL Regular showcasing an assortment of deep, bass influenced House music.

We are expecting to see and hear a lot from AliA over the next little while and we think you will be too.

Listen and read the interview below:

Please introduce yourself… Who are you, where are you and what are you?

Hello I’m Alyah, currently living in Anderlecht, Brussels ….

What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?

Drawing by the boss Buujiii ! – open for own interpretation.

Where was the mix recorded?

At my co-housing appartement in Anderlecht, Brussels.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

What should we be wearing?

Whatever is most comfortable !

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

In Open Ground club in Wuppertal, on that system, I would love to test everything out in that room. I had the honour to play in the smaller room a couple of weeks back, amazing sound! But the one in the big room was next level, never heard such perfection in a room. But somewhere in the nature would be sick as well.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

Hard to say. But make sure to go check out the new Eclipse Tribez compilation – a Brussels based label run by Cabasa & Serge Taquin. That new Cabasa track is sick. Oh also this Palinopsia (Francesco Tristano Remix) is a very impressive mix between jazz & electronics – very deep one for the jazz heads.

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

Wooly window sessions part wun – UKG 4/4 +++ by Joy Orbison is a big vibe !

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

Oof, too many legends to name so I’ll go for my dad. He used to be a DJ himself back in the days + a resident in a club in Leuven called ‘Silo’ where they used to have artists like Moodymann, Jef Mills, DJ Sneak, Mark Farina to name a few. He played in the smaller room called ‘the soul kitchen’ where he played all night long sets & went through a big variety of genres. I would love to be able to look back in time to see how such evenings went or to see what my father did. He used to have a large vinyl collection that he unfortunately sold all just before I was born due to digitalisation during that period and the arrival of my birth / lack of space in the house. To this day we share a lot of music with each other and get along well on that front. So he’s still very passionate about music but unfortunately no longer feels the need to be behind the decks himself.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

That would have been one of the cheapest controllers. Now I have the Pioneer XDJ-RX2 + 2 technics 1200mk7.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

Both!

What were the first and last records you bought?

Not a 100% sure about the first one but I think that was A Tribe Called Quest – People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm. A package from Discogs just arrived with a record by Samuel L Session & also one by Mike Huckaby.

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Marinated artichokes.

If it was an animal what would it be?

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

One track in this mixtape (more in the end) is quite impossible to mix in tight but amazing track so would be a loss to skip it because of that. It’s the Downliners Sekt – Trim/Tab (Part Two) one – sick track !

Upcoming in the world of… AliA?

Artisjok Records !! I just launched my label called ‘Artisjok’. A label where I want to focus on the music itself rather than on any specific genre + where I want to give a platform to upcoming artists who have the potential to grow & the chance to use this platform to develop. The first release has just come out, where my good friend ‘XL Regular’ – a Rome based young producer (24yrs old) shows his profound love for percussions & grooves.

Here you can check out the first release: 🙂
