Food Not Bombs Providing Free Lunches For All In North London
In a time when even the supposed left wing of UK politics is determined to spend billions on a new nuclear deterrent, it was refreshing to see handmade posters cropping up on bus stops in North London taking a stand against the gross injustice of this waste. Food Not Bombs was founded in the US in 1980 and it's ideology is that corporate and government priorities are skewed to allow hunger to persist in the midst of abundance. They take positive direct action by gathering food that would otherwise be wasted, cook it and serve it for free in public to anyone and everyone who is hungry, building a sustainable and co-operative active community. FNB North London serve a free vegetarian or vegan lunch twice a month, usurping the corporates who deliberately over produce food to keep their supply chains employed and over price food despite a horrifying amount destined for landfill. A monthly meeting is also held where the group plan their activism, show solidarity with workers and organise demonstrations, recently supporting the Deliveroo drivers strike and the Black Lives Matter movement.
The next free lunch provided by Food Not Bombs North London is at T. Chances, Tottenham High Road on 28th August 2016.
