campaign to grant legal aid for inquest into shootingof cherry groce
A petition has been started on Change.Org by the family of Cherry Groce (who was shot and severely injured by police leading to the 1985 Brixton riots) in order to raise money for the family to employ a lawyer to represent them at the inquest into Groce’s shooting.
After many years of campaigning, the family have finally been granted an inquest but have ludicrously been denied legal aid. The petition has been started with the aim of gathering 150,000 signatories before being sent to Chris Grayling, Secretary of State for Justice.
The shooting occurred when police raided Mrs Groce’s home while searching for her Son who was wanted for armed robbery. Her son was later acquitted for the crime.
