We Are The Best
Previewing triumphantly at BFF2013, Lukas Moodysson shows that he has not entirely lost his touch. It's been a while since the pleasures of Together (14 years ago), but he seems to have rediscovered his playful mojo.
The time is the early 1982, the place is Sweden, more specifically a high school in Stockholm, where 12/13 year olds Bobo and Klara are a pair of disaffected teenage girls with attitude to spare but nothing to do with it. Until they decide to form a punk band, despite (or because) of the fact that they can't play. However, they do co-opt another young teenager, a very good girl who can play guitar and who agrees to join them, notwithstanding her Christian upbringing.
That's pretty much all there is, but the film is energetic and playful and fun, as well as giving an unusually acute insight into what it's like being that age. So that you simply can't resist enjoying yourself as much as everyone else is.
