Owiny Sigoma Band Present ‘Nyzana’ With A Q&A Session
In the wonderful world of Kenya where hippo-devouring animals run wild, the Owiny Sigoma Band perform to villagers and family. The Owiny Sigoma band is made up of three Londoners, brothers Louis and Jesse Hackett and their school friend Tom Skinner and two elderly gentlemen from Kenya, Joseph and Charles who are masters of the Nyatiti and Nyidoungue drums. This short film documents the making and performance of the bands third album, Nyzana. We see them create field recordings on their trip to Kenya and the celebration with the villagers of Joseph and Charles as their music is performed live.
The Insitute of Contemporary Arts will be hosting the debut showing of Nyzana on the 30th of July followed by a question and answer session from the band and the films' director and live music from the Owiny Sigoma Band to end the evening. Supported by the British Council and The Arts Council, watch Ivan Ogilive's short film from Brownswood Recordings and the Owiny Sigoma Band. Get a taste for Kenya in this cross cultural and cross generational project documenting the process behind and the making of the album and the cultural aspects involved.
Get tickets for the screening of Nyzana at ICA here for the 30th of July, 2015.
