Musician Ahmed Eid has launched The Fringe: Two Days of Political Conversation and Music, a fundraiser to support the Palestine Music Space, running on the 24th and 25th of October in Manchester.

The event, organised with Make Music Matter and KINDA, comes in response to WOMEX’s silence on the ongoing genocide in Gaza. The Fringe will feature a mix of discussions and live music, shining a spotlight on Palestinian voices and activism.

Taking place at Six Trees Kitchen & Bar, the event offers an alternative to WOMEX’s refusal to acknowledge the plight of Palestinians. Through this initiative, Eid aims to raise essential funds for the Palestine Music Space, a Ramallah-based organisation that supports emerging Palestinian musicians by offering a safe space for creativity and collaboration.

By supporting this event, attendees are invited to divest from institutions that ignore Palestinian struggles and invest in grassroots initiatives empowering Palestinians. The event’s line-up includes performances by Urbi, Mr. Scruff, Laura Jackson, and Eid, alongside political conversations featuring activists such as Alia Alzoughbi and Ruth Daniel.

"We hope to engage with Womex delegates and start a conversation  about how the global music industry can help by offering a platform to Palestinian and other oppressed and marginalised people across the   world. Ensuring that their culture and music can still be heard and given the chance to survive through genocide and oppression. "

The daytime sessions will feature live Palestinian music from Ahmed Eid and ILYF, alongside workshops and political discussions. In the evenings, a stellar DJ line-up will take over, with headliners Mr Scruff (accompanied by MC Kwasi) and Felix Dickinson leading the charge. Other performers include Metrodome, Lil’ Minx, Laura Jackson, Urbi, and The Beatriarchy, creating a vibrant and diverse musical experience at Six Trees Kitchen, M17 1BN, a community hub hosting this two-day event.
