“I CAN’T FOLLOW YOU ANYMORE” : An Artistic Exploration of Black Trans Identity and Vampires
A browser-based video game by artist Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley, launches October 31, offering players a unique exploration of Black trans identity, spirituality, and resistance within the context of vampire mythology.
Brathwaite-Shirley, known for her work across animation, sound, performance, and video game development creates thought-provoking video games. With her new project “I CAN’T FOLLOW YOU ANYMORE” invites players to choose a character and navigate a world where the concept of authority is open to question. The game features a visual style reminiscent of ’90s PS1 graphics and pays homage to 2000s vampire pop culture. Its aim is to centre and provide focus on Black trans experiences through aesthetics, gameplay, and storytelling.
The game comes with mild horror elements, fight scenes, and references to biting and challenging themse such as death, dysphoria, and radicalism.
