Reflections: Ten Years Of The Gun
Last weekend, The Gun turned 10 years old.
For those that don’t know (which we can’t imagine is many), The Gun on Well Street, has carved its name into the streets of East London for a decade. It’s a genuine East London pub built around 1860, taken over in June 2014 and a “respectful lick of paint” quickly followed.
It’s a hub for music heads and art lovers, Gun FC fanatics, foodies and much much more. It’s the pulse of the neighbourhood, a riot of flavours, sounds and camaraderie. Below we’ve put together a brief overview of what you might find at The Gun.
THE BEATS.
A quick pit stop here and you may find DJ sets from local heroes, new acquaintances or super special guests which can result in a late license to boot. It’s a launchpad for fresh talent and a sonic sanctuary where the beats keep you coming back. The commitment to the music programming has made it the heartbeat for the area and has resulted in the development of the infamous Sunday Gunday. You might stumble in and bump into Vladimir Ivkovic, C.A.R., Elles, Andy Bell and friends, or find yourself under the neon sipping on a Guinness with a certain Scott Fraser, what’s not to like?
THE GRUB.
It’s not always just about the beats and the drinks, The Gun’s food game is often a reason to visit. Menus that dance between modern bites and classic pub grub. It’s equally important for plates as it is pints.
THE MATCH.
For the footy lovers, The Gun’s a second home. It’s the place to be on Sunday match days, and if you support Liverpool, that’s a bonus.

THE VIBE.
Art shows or film nights, The Gun’s a place for ideas, a location where creativity or pint can often spill over. It’s a space where conversation and dancing collide, creating a community that’s very much needed. If you’re lucky, you may even get a speech from the landlord and find the true meaning of the vortex. And if you’re even luckier, you might even see sparks fly from the neon.
A DECADE STRONG.
Ten years in, The Gun is still home for all and a place you never go in just for one, whether that be at the bar, the restaurant or the Gun Powder room. So here’s to The Gun, an anchor in the storm. Another ten years? Damn right.
