Underworld To Perform Dubnobasswithmyheadman

Time flies. I spotted another flippin' snow white hair on my head about half an hour ago, and now I discover Underworld's 'Dubnobasswithmyheadman' came out 20 years ago. Jesus.

For those of you too young to remember, Underworld's first proper album (they'd been a terrible no mark indie band before the whizzkid Darren Emerson joined) was something of a game changer. Along with classic LPs from Orbital, The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy and Leftfield, it ushered in the age of stadium techno, laying to rest any lingering doubts that dance music couldn't work as a cohesive album sound.

Now, 20 years on, the album is getting the full super deluxe remastered reissue treatment, coming out on a whole range of formats, from double LP to Blu Ray to 5xCD box set. The bands Rick Smith has been hard at work on the remaster, revisting the original MIDI files that made the record, and discovering a wealth of unheard material in the process. To coincide with the re-release of 'Dubnobasswithmyheadman', Underworld will play the album in full at a one-off show at London’s Royal Festival Hall on Saturday 11th October 2014 – whether the long absent Emerson will be rejoining the Karl Hyde and Rick Smith for the show remains to be seen.
