Suono Grasso to showcase experimental Italian music in London

Taking place across two nights in East London. Cafe Oto will play host to musicians from Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region.

Taking place on the 8th and 9th of October, Suono Grasso will act as a two night celebration of experimental and leftfield music from Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region. Suono Grasso is a key annual event for the Italian region to support international connection and collaboration.

A number of musicians and artists will perform across two nights at the longstanding music venue widely regarded for its approach to forward thinking bookings and progression.

So Beast are a duo from Bologna countryside, comprising of Katarina Poklepovic and Michele Quadri. Together they produce music which touches upon a number of genres and styles including psychedelic, post punk, pop, noise, avant garde and beyond. They have teamed up with French artist Agathe Wax to prepare a performance which will feature live improv on Tuesday the 8th of October.

The Tuesday schedule will also feature R.Y.F., the project of Ravenna-based Italian singer-songwriter Francesca Morello. The recent album, Deep Dark Blue, features guests Moor Mother, Skin (Skunk Anansie), and Alos (Stefania Pedretti) and channels elements of industrial, ebm and abstract pop.

On the Wednesday evening a statement performance from the James Jonathan Clancy band is hotly anticipated as they prepare to showcase their first album in seven years, Sprecato. Clancy will be joined by talented musicians from the experimental Italian scene and the Maple Death community.

The night will also play host to what is described as “the world’s only Australian-Italian electroacoustic noise rock trio”, Sulla Lingua, featuring an international collaboration between some of the two nations’ most important experimental figures: Anthony Pateras on electronics, Stefano Pilia on guitar and Riccardo La Foresta on drums and his own creation, the Drummophone.
