Influences – Deetron

I said it once and I’ll say it a thousand times – this is the record which won me over for house and techno in the first place.

The use of the moog, the harmonies – and vocal harmonies especially are just absolutely amazing. My favourite Stevie song, I think….This was so far ahead of its time in 1972!

Carl’s best remix in my opinion and he goes by really high standards anyway. This is probably the best use of the arpeggio I have heard to date.

This is a piece you can listen to a thousand times and it will never become boring. It’s simply a masterpiece particularly due to the repetitive but slightly altered bassline, which has been an inspiration for the way I work with basslines as well.

Deep house blueprints Part 1.

There’s not many words you could possibly add to the music here as it’s a perfect showcase of Ron Trent’s incredible talent. This record has left my record box only for a short period of time since I got it in the early 90’s and that was because the vinyl wasn’t playable anymore and I had to play it from CD for a while.

I was so impressed when I first heard this tune. The vocals are beautifully raw and so is the rest of the music. The use of the sometimes weak sounding adjective ‘funky’ definitely makes sense here!

I only discovered Nils last year via Spaces and I’m completely hooked to this brilliant piece of music. I was delighted to get permission to use this as my closing track for fabric 76.

I heard Jeff play this off a white label during the first set of his I got to see here in Bern and it still sounds incredibly modern. I have a lot of respect for Jeff’s work both as a producer and DJ, his music is very unique and otherworldly sometimes even. Definitely one of my main influences in many ways.
