former EDL headjailed
Tommy Robinson, the former leader of the English Defence League has been jailed for 18 months on two counts of Mortgage fraud. Since leaving the EDL late last year, Robinson (real name the slightly more middle class – Stephen Yaxley-Lennon) has attempted to re-brand himself as the thinking man’s fascist by working with the think tank Quilliam.
A BBC documentary followed Robinson as he made the transition from EDL chest-beater to Quilliam supposed-intellectual and it was gruesome viewing – looking for all the world like a cynical ploy from a despicable bigot.
Defence lawyers for Robinson have argued that prison is not a safe place for their client – Robinson was previously imprisoned for using someone else’s passport to enter the US (smart move) and had to be placed in solitary confinement and moved to four separate prisons for his own safety.
Good luck in there Tommy. You’re going to need it.
