Nick Waplington – Live POrtrait Studio

In his first major project since the recent publication of his critically acclaimed Alexander McQueen Working Process, Nick Waplington is working on Live Portrait Studio a book to be published by Red Gallery books/{ourhistory} in December 2013.

On Sunday 10th November between midday and 8pm, Nick Waplington will be working exclusively with the Red Gallery, photographing members of the East End cultural and economic migrant community alongside those who continue to be part of the working, artistic and creative fabric of the area. In this rare opportunity to be documented by Nick, relevant members of the East End arts and cultural community are invited to be photographed on Sunday 10th November to appear in the limited edition book. 

Nick Waplington has lived and worked in Londons East End for nearly 20 years. Hes come a long way from the series that launched his career entitled Living Room, published in 1991 by Aperture. Since then his work has graced the walls of MOMA in New York, the V&A in London and some of the worlds leading photography galleries. 

Living between Hackney Wick, London and China Town, New York, Waplington documented the underground scene of Shoreditch in the 1990s and is collaborating with Red Gallery’s continuing efforts to record the people who create the identity of East London, as an extension of Red Gallery’s ongoing East End Promise exhibition archive.
