Richard Wahnfried – Time Actor

Richard Wahnfried is an alias of Klaus Schulze – one time member of Tangerine Dream and Ash Ra Tempel and without doubt one of the best exponents of the Moog Synthesizer of all time. The Wahnfried name was used for collaborations and partners in crime included Manuel Gottsching, Michael Schrieve, Arthur Brown and supposedly Carlos Santana. In this particular sonic nugget Schulze lays down a throbbing slow motion synth pulse over which Arthur Brown (I bring you Fire) rambles about the in’s and outs of the space time continuum. The real trance tackle and a bona fide ALFOS classic.

Chris & Cosey – This Is Me

Former Throbbing Gristle members Chris Carter & Cosey Fanni Tutti made this in 1981 for their album Heartbeat.Another low velocity electronic pulsation from Mr Carter over which Cosey supplies the quintessential english vocal – but it’s hard to tell if it sounds sexy or scary.

“Can you be so proud of respect you’ve won
When your left hand knows what the right has done”…

Pretty much the blueprint for the entire Cosmic Disco sound.

The Unknown Cases – Ma Simba Bele

Originally released on Rough Trade in 1983 – this is a low-slung ethno electro groover with tribal chants and and an amazing bass sound. It first came to my attention in the late 80′s during the first wave of Balearic Beats. I’m pretty sure that the ‘Cases were trying hard to be DAF and produced this by accident. None of their other output comes anywhere close but the Adrian Sherwoood mix is worth picking up if you stumble across it.

For almost a year Andrew Weatherall & Sean Johnston (Hardway Bros) have been carrying out a monthy experiment in interplanetary audio. The manifesto of their night, A Love From Outer Space is to never knowingly exceed 122bpm. Andrew describes the night as an oasis of slowness in a world of increasing velocity.

Sean Johnston has been DJ’ing since his formative years in the frozen North. Acid House Veteran, Techno Survivor, Hardway Bros, Beard Scientist and Freelance Disco Consultant he has played at some of London’s landmark clubs including The Promised Land, Sabre Sonic, Club UK, Final Frontier, Disco Bloodbath and was one of the founding residents at London Super Club Cable.
