Electronic music pioneer James Holden and acclaimed Polish clarinetist Waclaw Zimpel have announced their debut collaborative album, “The Universe Will Take Care Of You,” set for release on June 13th via Border Community.

The album features six expansive tracks that blend improvisation with psychedelic soundscapes, ranging from the skittering “You Are Gods” to the monumental title track finale. Despite their different musical backgrounds—Holden as an electronic music producer and DJ, and Zimpel from contemporary free jazz—the duo found immediate chemistry.

“We just clicked immediately, understood each other’s impulses, and made space for each other,” Holden shared. Both artists step beyond their signature instruments, with Holden incorporating violin and percussion alongside his synths, while Zimpel alternates between clarinet, various keyboard instruments, and traditional flutes.

Their music draws from shared influences including Moroccan Gnawa traditions, Indian classical music, and a mutual appreciation for trance-inducing sounds across genres. The duo will support the release with performances throughout 2025, with dates confirmed in Spain, the Netherlands, Canada, the UK, and Germany.
