Music For Summer Drives: A Playlist by Shida Shahabi
“I don’t listen to music that often, but it often happens when I am out for longer travels.“
Stockholm-based composer Shida Shahabi releases her second album, ‘Living Circle,’ marking a shift from her acclaimed debut.
The album, out now on 130701, showcases Shahabi’s evolution into more expansive sonic territories. Known for her warm piano compositions, this album delves into deeper and slower tracks, accompanied by cello lines and atmospheric textures. Drawing inspiration from ambient pioneers like Stars Of The Lid and Max Richter, Shahabi combines delicate piano and cello melodies with richly textured drone waves.
Her work uses a prepared piano with felt and subtle tape delay, exuding sensitivity and warmth that’s difficult to emulate. Shahabi’s considered approach to music parallels her lifestyle, where nurturing and unhurried existence play a vital role. ‘Living Circle’ features a mix of longer tracks, incorporating choral elements and the haunting interplay of piano and cello. The album’s glacial pace and resonant depth offer a powerful and contemplative musical experience, embodying timeless artistry.
We asked Shida to put us together a playlist for Summer Drives…
“I don’t listen to music that often, but it often happens when I am out for longer travels. That is when there’s time for it and when I have headspace to take things in. Here are a few tracks that I felt are worth mentioning, perhaps for your own travels during summer.” Shida Shahabi
