This November, the Red Bull Music Academy will team up with one of Bristols leading dubstep imprints (and FABRICLIVE residents), Tectonic, to bring one of dub musics fiercest originators to the UK. The legendary dub producer and electronics obsessed musician who was schooled at both King Tubbys and the Channel One studios, Scientist will return to these shores for a tour that kicks off here at fabric on the 18th November, continuing on to Stereo in Glasgow and Concorde 2 in Brighton. Joining Scientist on tour will be Tectonic boss, Pinch, alongsideMala, Loefah and emceeSgt Pokes.

Scientist needs no introduction, as a former protg of King Tubby and engineer at the respected Channel One Studio in Jamaica; he is practically peerless, an undoubted godfather of the dub scene with one of the most expansive discographies that spans 3 decades and counting. Pitching up with him on this tour are The Upsetters, who were not only Lee Scratch Perrys house band but also form the nucleus of The Wailers, famed for their work with Bob Marley.

These two heavyweight names will be joined by some of the UKs finest talents: Pinch, who is famed for championing the bass line heavy wave of dubstep music in his native Bristol – with the club night Subloaded and a network of respected record labels including Tectonic and Earwax RBMA favourite Mala, whose deep and meditative production style, which is probably best captured on his new Return II Space long player, draws a lot from the spatial thick low end of dub music and his fellow DMZ residents Loefah, whose new wave of drum machine laced productions on his own Swamp81 label are pushing the conceptions of dubstep into new and sonically interesting places, and Sgt Pokes, whose mic hosting skills hold no comparison.
