Superski: The Ransom Note Mix
A wild voyage through fast paced funk.
Superski is a dynamic duo made up of heavy hitters Voiski and Eliott Litrowski. Together the pair have teamed up to collaborate on new music based around a common love for analogical synthesizers and their vision of a colourful and positive club culture.
Their music is fun, euphoric and rooted in all the things that makes dance music great.
In respect of influences they draw upon a great deal blurring the lines between House, Italo and Techno and there is something very 80’s about the whole undercurrent behind the project. Think led lights and sunsets.
We invited the pair to record a mixtape which represents their sound and what they have delivered is a masterclass in funk – a no holds barred affair packed with energy and wild cuts.
Listen and read the interview below:
Please introduce yourself…Who are you, where are you and what are you?
We are Superski, the association of Voiski & Eliott Litrowski. Voiski is based in Ivry (close to Paris) and Eliott is based in Copenhagen, Denmark. We are music scientists both playing live and DJ.
What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?
Our music definitely sounds like this… It’s spacy, fun and sparkling.
Where was the mix recorded?
The mix was recorded at Eliott’s apartment in Copenhagen on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?
It’s definitely a soundtrack for active cardio exercises. We would recommend listening to it while cleaning your apartment for example.
What should we be wearing?
Whatever makes you happy and comfy!
What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?
For club music, the best place to record a mix is a club. A cosy DJ booth, very good monitors, 3 CDJS, 2 1210 Technics and a quality mixer.
Which track in the mix is your current favourite?
Eliott : Anders Dahl – Trancelela (Another Name Copenhagen)
Voiski : Younger Than Me – Don’t Fly with the Elephants (ULLA Records)
What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?
Eliott : Michael Mayer – Fabric 13 mix (Fabric)
Voiski : Dave Clarke – Electro boogie volume 2 (!K7)
If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?
Voiski: Maybe Carl Cox? He looks like fun and he doesn’t age, I would ask him how? 😀
Eliott : Definitely Sven Vath, for the fun 😉
What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?
Eliott : I used one of my parents’ record players with a numark TT2 turntable plugged into an old stanton hip hop mixer. Now I made a little upgrade with 2 technics 1210 turntables, 2 XDJ 700 and an E&S DJR 400.
Voiski : I babysat my little cousin during summer 2003 and managed to get enough money to buy one technics SL1200 Mk2 which I still have! then I found a Gemini CD-400X and a really cheap mixer Behringer DJX700 on a second hand shop; that was my very first setup. Now 2 technics 1200 mk2, 2 CDJ 2000 and an old Soundcraft D-Mix 500.
What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?
Both are very important. it is mostly what people remember from your set! The first track needs to introduce your set, your mood, the last one needs to close smoothly for the next act or finish in euphoria if you are closing.
What were the first and last records you bought?
Eliott : The first one was The Chemical Brothers – Come With Us (Virgin)
The last one was Mark Grusane – Book Me For Your Birthday Party (Bless you)
Voiski : First one is Sven Väth fire works E.P. and last one is The Source Experience – Point Zero / Quartz
If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?
A beef saté soup from Voiski’s favorite chinese restaurant.
If it was an animal what would it be?
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?
Voiski : Mark Fell – Periodic Orbits Of A Dynamic System Related To A Knot
Eliott : Everything is possible!
Upcoming in the world of…
We are playing a few live shows for our album tour this summer and working on our next EP while trying to have a good balance in life!
Anything else we need to discuss?
I think we are good! Thanks!
