Insomnia Music with Conducta

Music

In recent years UK Garage has been getting a worthy revival, and with that, a new wave of producers have come to the fore who are on a mission to reshape the landscape.

West London-based Conducta has been one of the artists at the helm — not only through his own output but via his Kiwid Rekords imprint which has helped to nurture the next generation of talent coming up through the ranks.

Community and empowerment has been central to his approach; on top of supporting emerging artists through the label, in 2020 he launched the Kiwi Kup remix competition which fostered a sense of collaboration between him and new producers, as well as giving him a space to provide mentorship and support.

During his rise over the last few years, Conducta’s been no stranger to late and sleepless nights, at home or on tour, so we asked him to share the sounds that help to soothe him during the twilight hours…

Kornel Kovacs - Baltzar

Whenever I listen to this song it instantly sends me into a trance. Often it’ll be 4/5am and I’ve exhausted all my YouTube bookmarks and looking for a reason to stay up then bam… Baltzar. Each section of this track is a journey which for me is endless and accompanies many of my sleepless nights.

  • Shinichiro Yokota - Right Here! Right Now!

Fun fact – I wandered around Shibuya to this tracks for almost four hours. When I was on tour in Japan a couple years ago, this was the perfect soundtrack to being stuck alone on other side of world and not being able to sleep. The lights in the city didn’t help with insomnia but this track did.

  • Pop Smoke - Sweetheart Ft. Fivio Foreign

There’s something about the instrumental on this song which is haunting enough to keep me awake. This combined with the energy of Pop and Fivio means that whenever I’m listening back to music on my playlist there’s no way that I can rest. My youngest sister stayed with me over the summer and we just repeated this song for hours. His energy will be missed but I’m glad his legacy will live on forever.

  • The Streets, Tame Impala - Call My Phone Thinking I'M Doing Nothing Better

This is the insomnia anthem. Both Tame Impala and Mike skinner capture the mood perfectly. Not much more to be said.

  • Some Treat Lost In Vegas

This was the soundtrack to a lot of my late night runs. There are few garage tunes which I could listen to on repeat but this is the exception. Whenever I hear this I always take a time machine in my head to being at heartless crew rave from the 90s and that probably explains why I can never sleep after hearing this.
