Premiere: Cheb Mimoune – Abdel Kader (Dar Disku Edit)
Everything in the house was immaculate; not a speck of dust to be found, not a thing out of place. She liked to keep up appearances, it was important that she showed everybody that she had it together, that she was a model to be followed. Hand outs weren’t her thing, she’d never ask another for help. Soon she’d learn there was no weakness in leaning on another…
Continuing their mission to turn old Middle Eastern finds into cuts for the dancefloor, production and DJ duo Dar Disku embark on release number four on their own eponymous label. This time they turn their attention to Egypt and the region of MENA, enlisting the skills of Saudi via Dublin artist Moving Still and Tjade to flip one of the tracks whilst they put their spin on the other. While the former’s edit pairs Italo influences with arpeggiated bass and crisp drum work, the label bosses club-ready version of Cheb Mimoune’s cover of regional classic ‘Abdel Kader’ pulls from Bubblegum and Egyptian G Funk influences.
Dar Disku will be donating 50% of the profits from the release directly to Middle-Eastern based charities.
