Asteroid named after Brian Eno

The celebrated musician, producer and composer has been recognised in a celebration hosted at the prestigious science festival Starmus V. He was presented with a Stephen Hawking Medal for Science Communication on Monday night. 

This morning Brian Eno was then presented with a surprise accolade by astronomer Marc Buie of the Southwest Research Institute. He discovered Asteroid 81948 and nominated that it be named after Brian Eno. Previously named ‘81948 (2000 OM69)’ the asteroid is newly-dubbed ‘Brian Peter George St John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno’, or ‘Eno’ for short.

Brian Eno has long been adored amidst the world of astrology and science having drawn upon great inspiration from the field for his music across a lengthy, prolific career. His album ‘Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks’ is regarded as one of the definitive moments in ambient music, acting as the soundtrack for the feature-length documentary ‘For All Mankind’ back in 1983.
